I’m sitting here researching the best songs, best movie winners and news stories of every year of my life. Why am I doing this? One, this snow storm we are experiencing has got me angrier than self isolation I have already been going through. Mostly, like many, we are all handling this massive change differently. As I stated previously because daily mental health issues I feel as if the disarray others are feeling is just my calm. It’s as if I’ve been training my whole life for this moment. That cliche even sounded gross rolling off my tongue. (I mean the thought of it.)
In all seriousness, as I was researching all this fun pop culture bullshit (checking if you are actually reading this) that tends to influence a society that has not thoughts of it own. I realize why I really calm. My generation. Generation X. We are all just kicking back and reliving our childhoods all over again. A time before all this technology took over natural selection. We are struggling, in a time, where it is impossible to prepare for the inevitable. We get to look back and say ” hey, I can do this. I’ve been here before.” Circa the 80’s and the 90’s.
We are again, at a time of snow days and dubbing your favorite song from the radio on a cassette tape. We are at a time we can still sign our names, maybe a pager, but the landline is off the hook. We are respectful and still know how to say thanks. We are again staying outside from dawn to dusk. You can still carry the one and the smell of the pages are calling your name. We are good. I hope you all watch and learn. Embrace the opportunity presenting itself. Stop making excuses.
Class of 99 here is a playlist of every #1 songs of our lives. Starting with 1980, depending when you were born. This musical revolution is the exact reason we are surviving right now. Enjoy the memories associated with the times. Stay safe and sane.
